Estrategia para el manejo de Residuos Sólidos Urbanos en la localidad rural de Santa Bárbara - Chilpancingo, con enfoque de género y participativo.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to develop a strategy for the management of Urban Solid Waste (USW) in the rural community of Santa Bárbara (Chilpancingo, Guerrero) with a gender-sensitive and participatory approach, through the development of three stages. First, a socio-environmental characterization of the community was carried out to identify aspects of daily life and the generation and disposal of USW, as well as the specific role of women and girls in terms of participation, education, and work. Second, a Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) was conducted through awareness workshops on issues related to the inadequate management of USW. In parallel, workshops aimed at women and girls were organized to highlight the relationship between the community, the space they inhabit, and the resources it provides them. Finally, a USW management strategy was co-constructed within the community, led by a group of local women, with the aim of strengthening their participation in decision-making on community matters, promoting their empowerment, and raising awareness about the importance of caring for local natural resources. This contributed to the pursuit of sustainable solutions that incorporate a gender perspective and citizen participation, laying the groundwork for improved USW management and environmental well-being in Santa Bárbara.
