Huerto medicinal comunitario con participación de mujeres en Cerro Gordo Viejo, municipio de Ayutla de los Libres, Guerrero.
Abstract
Cerro Gordo Viejo is a rural community that lacks health services. In the search for a solution generated locally for this problem, and with the aim of rescuing the traditional knowledge of medicinal plants possessed by women of this community, a community medicinal garden was established with the participation of 11 women. A survey was applied to adult women in the locality, as well as semi-structured interviews to those who participated in this study. In addition, awareness-raising workshops were held to facilitate their organization. The women of Cerro Gordo Viejo
know 70 species of medicinal plants, with which they have treated more than 46 health-related problems. Of those species, 35 were planted in the community medicinal garden. It was also found that, with the application of the awareness workshops, organizational processes could be consolidated among the members, since they carried out a tianguis (a traditional Mesoamerican temporary street market for the sale of mainly locally produced goods) of natural medicine in their community and have an interest in moving this same tianguis to the municipal seat, Ayutla, and
the neighboring communities of Cerro Gordo Viejo.
