Sepsis is defined according to the current sepsis criteria 3 as a dysregulated response of the body to an infection that results in life-threatening organ dysfunctions, these are characterized and quantified by an increase in the SOFA (sequential organ failure assessment) score greater than 2 points, in the emergency care setting the (q Sofa) scale can be used to detect sepsis and prevent its progression to septic shock.
